Application of Various Flowmeters

There is no flowmeter in the world that can measure fluid in any medium.  According to the different properties of each fluid, the application of various flow meters is also different.


Generally speaking, the best choice for some tested media which are edible or pharmaceutical fluids with hygiene requirements is the external clamp non-contact ultrasonic flowmeter.


However, vortex flowmeter is the best choice for some high temperature pipe sections with gas as the medium to be measured.  There are also some small-flow and small-caliber fluids for which the gas mass flowmeter is selected.




For many direct users, type selection is often difficult. Based on this, this article will make a basic type selection reference introduction for customers:




1. Ultrasonic flowmeter


At present, ultrasonic flow meters in our country can only be used to measure fluids below 200℃.  Flow measurement of highly corrosive, non-conductive, radioactive and flammable and explosive media.


The greatest advantage of ultrasonic wave is that it does not need to contact the medium to be measured, and it is superior to most flow meters in accuracy, i.e. multi-channel ultrasonic flow meters. The more channels, the higher the accuracy (and the higher the price).




2. Turbine flowmeter


Turbine flowmeter is widely used in the following measuring objects: petroleum, organic liquid, inorganic liquid, liquefied gas, natural gas, gas and cryogenic fluid.




3. Electromagnetic flowmeter


The working principle of electromagnetic flowmeter determines that it can only measure conductive medium.  But his advantage is that he can measure the fluid containing most impurities in the fluid and keep the accuracy.


Electromagnetic flowmeter can choose lining, which highlights another advantage of electromagnetic flowmeter: it can measure various corrosive liquids such as acid, alkali, salt, etc.  Various inflammable and explosive media;  All kinds of industrial sewage, pulp, mud, etc.


Electromagnetic flowmeters cannot be used to measure gases, vapors and liquids containing a large amount of gases. They cannot be used to measure liquid media with very low conductivity and cannot measure high temperature and high pressure fluids.




4. Vortex Flowmeter (Vortex Flowmeter)


Vortex street flowmeter is mainly used to measure the flow of medium fluid in industrial pipelines, such as gas, liquid, vapor and other media.


It is characterized by small pressure loss, large measuring range and high precision, and is almost not affected by parameters such as fluid density, pressure, temperature and viscosity when measuring the volume flow under working conditions.


For high temperature gases such as steam, vortex flowmeter can reach a temperature tolerance of less than 350℃ and has advantages in type selection.




⒌ Float flowmeter (rotameter)


It can be used to measure the flow of liquid, gas and steam, especially suitable for medium flow measurement with low flow rate and small flow rate.


The disadvantage is that the structure is too simple to record the data automatically and can only be viewed on site.  But the price is much cheaper than other flow meters.  It is commonly used in some sewage projects.




6. Thermal (Gas) Mass Flowmeter


It is suitable for measuring single gas and multi-component gas with fixed proportion.


This means that the applicable medium is clean and single gas.

★ Measurement of Waterfall Gas Flow in Water Treatment


★ Measurement of gas flow during production in cement, cigarette and glass factories; Measurement of compressed air flow


★ Flow measurement of natural gas, gas, liquefied gas, flare gas, hydrogen and other gases


★ Measurement of Air Charging Flow in Steel Works
